Yesterday, I wrote about some of the monsters that plague business owners. Here are a few more monsters that can suck the life (and the fun) out of your business.
The Blob
Th blob sometimes attacks right after the bling a ling monster. Blobs LOVE research. They thrive on information, they take classes, get certifications… and then do absolutely nothing with their knowledge. It is almost as if all the research and learning is weighing them down instead of actually helping. Symptoms of a blob attack can also be an unwillingness to seek help in your business. Trying to do everything yourself (even if you know how) can weigh you down. Fortunately, escaping the gooey grip of the business blog is quite easy — take some action and get some help. Even if you are very skilled and capable (and/or cash poor), involving others in your business adds accountability (and momentum) and increases the odds of moving forward.
The Delegation Diva
Sometimes, the Blob leaves the Delegation Diva in its wake. The online world is chock full of very smart, very capable virtual support partners. In the wake of all that efficiency (and new found free time if you were a recent blob victim)… you delegate your *whole* business to your “team”. At the surface, this would seem to be a good thing. However, as a business owner the ultimate responsibility for your business falls on your shoulders. Even if you don’t want to learn the in’s and outs of your e-commerce system or how to tweak the css code on your site — you do need to how to access all the real estate in your online empire. It is also wise to have back up resources so that your business does not grind to a halt if your virtual team is not available.
The Scaredy Cat
Business owners who suffer from an Scaredy Cat attack end up being scared of the technology involved in an online business. They are afraid that they will somehow “break” their blog simply by posting on it. They also tend to spend huge sums of money on expensive web designers who charge exhorbitant hosting fees and don’t give their clients access to the site or their own domain name. The scaredy cats are becoming less common – the cure is to realize that if you create copies and back ups – it is very hard to break things online in a way that can’t be fixed.
