Until very recently, I was a screencast virgin… The screencasting options are somewhat limited with a mac and it always seemed so cumbersome. Enter the Jing Project — a f*ree screencasting utility from TechSmith – the makers of the grandaddy of all screencasting software, Camtasia.
When you install Jing, it puts a iittle sun up in the corner of your screen. To record, just click on the sun, click capture, choose video or image. The video gives you 3 seconds to start and then you can start capturing. Click “stop” and then you are done.
Jing gives you a choice up uploading your file to screencast.com (free), flickr, or to a file. Easy as pie — and great for when you just need to show a client something and don’t have time for a conference call.

There are a couple of downsides (but, hey, it’s free…)
1. There is a 5 minute time limit on videos.
2. The videos are made as flash (.swf) files so you can’t easily upload them to YouTube
3. You can’t resize them — which is an issue for putting the videos on your blog.
Still, Jing is great for taking a quick screen capture…
