10 Reasons It is More Fun to Plan Virtual Events
I have had the pleasure (and fun) of planning both virtual and live events. As technology gets better and travel becomes more and more of a pain - virtual events will become more popular. VA Classroom's Virtual Event Planning Training was designed to help people learn how to plan events (I'm signing up just to keep up to date on this changing niche).
Here are 10 reasons why virtual events are more fun to plan than live events:
1. The logistics are *much* easier. You are not having to book hotel rooms, worry about late flights, shuttle bus breakdowns, etc.
2. You can sleep in your own bed.
3. It is easier to have an on-demand back-up if the technology fails.
4. The food is much better at your house.
5. Less paper involved — no handouts, registration forms or signs - everything is electronic.
6. You can attract more people to your event since no travel is involved.
7. It is easier to record the event for later use.
8. New technology (like Maestro Conference) allow virtual breakout groups so participants can get individual attention and even more time with VIPS and speakers.
9. Virtual events and social networking go together like peanut butter and jelly. Advertising costs are a lot less.
10. You don't have to worry about strange midnight requests for tennis racquets and chess sets from your event VIPS (this has really happened to me — more than once…)

I love virtual events. Whether planning the event or having to partake in the event, it rocks.
With the current recession, my company has really cut back on my travel and it's been a small blessing in disguise. I love taking care of my events online as opposed to all the fuss that goes into a business trip.
There's so much less stress involved with making everything happen (as you stated). No airport parking, flights, rental cars, hotel rooms, meals alone. I get done what I need done without the majority of the hassle. It's a wonderful thing. I just need to set up a time to take care of my business and that's pretty much it.
Zoe, I do remember the old days when I did conference planning (and traveling to go to conferences) all to well. This is one area were technology really has improved my quality of life
